Having worked many years at television stations, production companies, and ad agencies, I have created a multitude of diverse video content. Although some of these samples are a bit dated, they continue to exemplify my skills in producing, writing, directing, editing and animation. Content includes corporate training, fundraising, tourism (plays on loop at museums), political campaigns, sales presentations, branding/image promotions, and commercials.
My favorite aspect of producing media is thinking of creative, concise, and attention-grabbing ways to get your message across by looking through available materials and making something amazing yet effective out of it. Sometimes the best spots are ones that I have little to no materials.
I hope you enjoy some of my samples below as much as I did digging them up.
Such an incredibly fun time in my career.
Children's Advocacy Center fundraiser
Simrell Media - shown at a fundraising event for the Children's Advocacy Center.
Bullies news promo
WBRE - I was nominated for a regional Emmy for this one. The background music is me singing with audio effects and stacked. Footage was from the news story. The sound bites were so profound and heartbreaking. I let that tell the story. Concept, editing, graphics and animation by me.
Name That Street Challenge contest spot
WYOU - this is one of the spots that we had no materials with which to work. I had a vision of a detective-type feel and collaborated with the art department to come up with a look. They came up with the logo design and I did the writing, outsourcing for voice talent, editing and animation.
Meeting the Challenge documentary open
Digital Video Express (DVX) - approached by the Commissioners of Lackawanna County, the project was to create a longer-form program to show why the county needed an upgraded prison. I did the editing, graphics and animation.
Grow n' Mow contest spot
WYOU - another contest spot that was created by a quick shoot in a backyard, and lots of motion graphics. The voice talent outsourcing, editing, graphics and animation was all done by me.
Support our troops promo
WBRE - a sendoff to our troops leaving for Iraq. Footage was procured from NBC stock. I enjoy creating spots that tell a story with nothing but images and some nat sound.
Wireless Weather promo
WYOU - A quick in-studio shoot of me with a flip phone (gotta love it) and lots of motion graphics fill this spot that, once again, I had no materials to start.
When Good Foods Go Bad sweeps news promo
WBRE - Working with consumer reporter Eliot Weiler was one of my favorite eras of my career. The station pushed the promotion of Eliot very hard, and we got to do lots of very fun consumer promos with him. I love to take a mundane topic and run wild with it. Here is one we shot at one of our artist's homes with some promotion employees. I was responsible for the concept, writing, directing, voice talent, editing, graphics and animation.
Megan's Law sweeps news promo
WBRE - Sweeps was an exciting time where reporters often did special reports that were heavily promoted for viewership. I would look through the news footage and generally come up with a script based off strong sound bites and imagery. Graphics by art department... editing, script, animation done by me.
Friends finale contest promo
WBRE - Contests were my favorite because I could be my most creative. This is an example of tying in sound bites from the show to compliment the script.
Telethon proof of performance spot
WBRE - We did many telethons and fundraising events throughout my career at TV stations. Here is an example of how you can get your point across in very little time with only sound bites... no voice-over needed.
I Love Lucy promo
WBRE - We wanted to push our classic television block. In this spot, I utilized sound bites with current (at the time) references. How can you go wrong with Lucy?!
Toy Test Eliot sweeps promo
Every year before Christmas, we would do a Toy Test segment that would run all week. My concept was to make a little Christmas poem, almost Seussian in nature. Shot in a preschool and a daycare, I wanted to match the energy and make it fast-paced and fun. The footage was all shot by news and I picked out parts I wanted to use, then wrote the script. Voice-over, some music, editing and animating, and we have an attention-grabbing promo.
Toy Test Lyndall sweeps promo
WBRE - The second year. I included this because I love the sound bite of the child at the end and I HAD to incorporate him into my script.
I would love to hear your input!
